Preston Castle

My brother and I took a trip to Ione, CA today to visit Preston Castle. It once served as a reform school for juvenile delinquents back in the late 1800’s.  If you ever watched the TV show called Ghost Adventures, they did a episode about the castle. Unfortunately it wasn’t open today but I plan on going when it’s open to take the tour..

We pulled in front of the new juvenile facility and I snapped this quick photo:

Pulling into the surrounding neighborhood, there’s some old houses that are no longer in use and boarded up, here’s one:

The old gate keeper?

Preston School of Industry opened 1894

It was really hard getting some close pictures due to the lack of space around the castle because it was mostly fenced off

and of course the roads around the castle are horrible..

  1. My Mom recently went to Preston Castle and saw those boarded up houses. Do you know what those houses are or why they are boarded up?

    1. I believe they are the old neighborhood houses. No clue why they are boarded up, but I did see people inside some of the houses so I guess some are still occupied.
